What’s new on LinkedIn in 2023

16 April 2025
Blue sky with clouds

LinkedIn, the professional social media channel with over 930 million users globally, tends to be the social network with the least amount of significant changes and updates – in comparison to the likes of Twitter & Instagram – but, that’s not to say there are not the wave of occasional well considered updates that enhance the user experience.

2022 saw the introduction of new features such as being able to save a post for later (handy for those lengthy insightful posts from industry leaders), running polls & uploading PDFs as carousels. Read more about what changed on LinkedIn in 2022

So, what features have we benefited from in 2023?

Post scheduling

This has been a revelation and game changer for those of us in marketing managing either multiple client LinkedIn pages & content plans, or those in in-house roles managing their own businesses’ LinkedIn page. However, there are some limitations to the format of post you can schedule… polls, multiple images & reshares are among a small list of post formats that cannot be scheduled in advance natively in the LinkedIn platform.

When it comes to multiple image posts, as we touched on a little earlier, one tactic to work around this and publish multiple images as a carousel organically is to upload them as a PDF. The trick we’ve experienced working the best is if you have a post and you want to have a carousel of 5 different graphics, get your designers to save the 5 graphics into one PDF file, and upload this file to your post. LinkedIn will then automatically display them page by page in a carousel.

Generate video captions

Further improvements to the video functionality on LinkedIn with the introduction of automatically generated video captions. Captions on videos can significantly increase the engagement & view rate, with many people perusing LinkedIn on their commute home from work, or on a mobile device in a setting where they don’t necessarily want sound – having captions means those viewers can still consume the video content & follow the narrative. This new functionality is also a further step in the direction of making the social media network more accessible.

Analytics

LinkedIn is expanding its analytics tools to give users more insights into how their content is performing. This will include data on impressions, clicks, and engagement. Something which historically has always been a thin area in LinkedIn.

Alt-text option for images

Again, in a similar space as the video captions, increased accessibility is a huge area of progression on social media platforms in the last 12 months. We’d recommend a similar approach to alt-text for images on LinkedIn as on your website for SEO benefits. Keep them short, accurate & descriptive.

Interface changes

In the year of significant interface changes (dare I mention GA4 & the Google Ads platformand their significantly different looking interfaces), LinkedIn is no different. Although the changes aren’t as widely significant or unnerving. Some slight changes we’ve noticed are when you’re viewing a page that you manage, options such as “view as member” and some others which used to be along the top area are now down on the left…

And that’s it for our latest roundup of changes on LinkedIn. We’re confident that although small, these changes will ultimately improve the user experience & content quality on the platform.
