In the realm of design, creativity is the heartbeat of innovation. At Next Chapter, our Senior Designer, Pippa, exemplifies this principle through her journey from childhood artistry to becoming a pivotal part of our team. Join us as we explore Pippa’s path, her passion for design agencywork, and the creative marvels she conjures.

Q1: What ignited your passion for the world of design?

A: For me, the journey into the world of design was a natural progression. I had always been a creative and artsy child, starting to draw at the tender age of 2. Over the years, my artistic pursuits evolved from drawing to painting and fine art. However, it was during an art foundation year at Leeds Art College that I discovered my deep love for design. This epiphany led me to pursue a degree in Design and Art Direction.

Q2: Did you always envision yourself working in an agency? If not, what drew you to agency work?

A: Yes, I’ve always had my sights set on agency work. The variety was a significant draw for me. Working with different clients, engaging with diverse brands, tackling various styles and types of projects – an agency has always offered me that variety of projects .   I also enjoy the team culture!

Q3: What’s your favourite aspect of being a part of the Next Chapter team? Do you have a least favourite aspect, if any?

A:  I enjoy designing for social media as the platform often allows for creative and experimental design. Collaborating to think of new campaign ideas is always fun too!

Q4: Are there design styles you’d love to explore but haven’t had the right opportunity for yet?

A: I’m eager to delve into 3D design within web and the art of animating these creations. Additionally, I have an insatiable appetite for learning new illustration styles, always looking to broaden my design horizons.

Q5: Which industries pique your personal interest? Are there any you’d like to work with that you haven’t had the chance to yet?

A: Sports brands have always intrigued me. The design style for these is often bold and energetic which I think would be fun to experiment with.

Q6: How do you typically spend your free time when you’re not crafting designs?

A: I’m quite active during my downtime, engaging in activities like running, hiking, and hitting the gym. I also enjoy glamping on weekends, striking a balance between outdoor adventures and a touch of luxury. Additionally, I indulge in illustration and have been working on writing, illustrating, and designing a children’s book.

Q7: What do you find most captivating about the design industry?

A: It all boils down to one word: creativity.

Q8: What advice would you offer to someone looking to venture into agency work or marketing, particularly from a design perspective?

A: From a design standpoint, I’d emphasise the importance of cultivating a versatile portfolio. Showcase your ability to adapt and collaborate with diverse clients, brands, and styles. Be eager to learn and approach your work with boundless enthusiasm.

Q9: If you could pick a dream holiday destination (both in the UK and abroad), where would it be?

A: Choosing a dream destination is challenging, as I’m an avid traveller who relishes exploring new places. I’ve rarely been back to the same countries or places as I like to see as much as I can, but I’ve been to some beautiful beaches in Greece, so when it’s rainy outside that’s probably the one place I dream of!

Q10: Working in an agency with a diverse clientele can be demanding. What do you believe is the key to delivering success for clients with varying needs?

A: The key to client success is adapting to their design style, listening to client requirements, analysing the audience’s needs, and determining the best solution that suits everyone. All while trying to create an award winning design!

Q11: Just for fun – if you could invite three individuals (dead or alive, celebrities or not) to your fantasy dinner, who would they be and why?

A: Probably a magician, like Derren brown. Always Louis Theroux. And a chef to cook us a lovely meal… maybe Heston Blumenthal so he can conjure a magical dinner party.

Q12: What are some of your proudest achievements or standout memories during your tenure at Next Chapter?

A: One of my fondest memories is smashing games of Beer Pong and darts at Flight Club! I always love a work night out 😀

Q13: AI is a prominent topic of discussion – do you believe it poses a threat to our jobs in the marketing industry?

A: No, I don’t foresee AI as a job threat. Instead, I view it as a tool that can handle routine and mundane tasks, allowing us to focus on more creative and strategic endeavours. AI can augment our abilities and free us to pursue higher-level thinking and skills.

Q14: What has been the most significant challenge you’ve faced while working at Next Chapter or in your career in design?

A: Public speaking has consistently presented a challenge for me, so presentations have been the most significant hurdles in my career, requiring me to step out of my comfort zone.

Q15: If you were a contestant on Mastermind, what would be your specialist subject?

A: While I don’t strictly practise it, I’ve read extensively in the field of physical and mental health, so probably that.
